The Germinator

Nothing says "spring" like planting seeds. A couple of weeks ago I planted some seeds for our "pot" garden in the backyard. (no, not that kind of pot. ha!) This year I am really going to try to plant as many veggies as I can without having any green space in our yard.
Anyone have any tips on planting veggies in window boxes? I was thinking about putting sugar snap peas in them and letting them vine all over the windows. If anyone has any suggestions I am needing some advice. Rubbermaid carrot bins?

Bike 'n' Booya!

I don't think you can handle this.

Vanilla Extract

I was at my friend Danny's house a couple weeks ago and I saw a bottle filled with homemade vanilla extract. What! So of course I wanted to give it a try. Now all I need to do it wait...8 weeks...

Recipe:
3 vanilla beans sliced down the middle
1 cup vodka
-Combine Vodka and Vanilla Beans in container / jar
-Cover the jar and let stand for 6-8 weeks in a cool dark place
-Shake mixture several times a week. The mixture will turn amber colored
-You can continue to add more Vodka as the extract becomes used.

Stoop Time

Warm weather brings everyone out of their little row homes and onto the stoop. Oh yeah, break out the bubbles.

Also, Penny said Mama for the first time today. It was great.

In Love with Philadelphia

I always have a new love for Philadelphia when spring comes rolling in. Walking around the neighborhood or working on the community garden, bumping into friends, ect. Last night Jesse's mom took the two older girls up to her house for the night, so Jesse and I had a night with just one kid. So strange. We decided to go out to dinner at El Camino Real and I had my favorite vegetarian meal in the city, veggie seitan hot wings. So good.
We visited our friends at the bike shop then went back home to light up the fire pit.

The house still has the lingering smell of the fire from last night and it makes me so excited for all the nights coming up we will be spending with friends in the "backyard." (Our 12x12 slab of concrete.)

I hope everyone is enjoying this weather as much as I am.

Camden Aquarium

We got a membership to the Camden Aquarium from my Gram for a Christmas gift. (Memberships are the best kinds of gifts for people who have kids in the city- really.) Today was our second time going and we love it there! Today I took all 3 little ones (I was really worried about going on such a big outing by myself with all of them) and we got there right when it opened. We had the whole Aquarium to ourselves and it was AMAZING! I am so glad we went and I am looking forward to going again as soon as possible.

Sweet Fix

I have really been enjoying the sun the last two days. Yesterday my good friend Carina and I took a bike ride and did "the loop" during the girl's nap time. (I love that Jesse works from home!) Today I walked all the girls (with the company of Leann and Maggie) to Ruke's school. It feels so good to be outside and in the sun.

Leann came back to have lunch with us and we both were in need for something sweet. All I had that was sweet were some chocolate chips in the freezer. Chocolate covered mini pretzel sticks? Don't mind if I do!

Jimmies for the little girls, rock salt for the big girls. They most definitely hit the spot.

Welcome March

We welcome March with pin-wheels in sad, empty, winter looking window boxes. Warm weather you can not come soon enough.
